Joseph H. Clapper, Jr., 93, of Hopewell, passed away on August 20, 2020 at Pennknoll Village in Everett. He was born on May 14, 1927 in Hopewell Township; son of the late Joseph H. Sr. and Bertha (Creps) Clapper. On May 5, 1950 in Winchester, VA, he was united in marriage to Dolores (Batzel) Clapper who survives. Joseph was a Class of 1945 graduate of the Robert P. Smith School and completed coursework in Agricultural Science at Penn State University. He was a member and past deacon of the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren and a lifetime farmer. Joseph was a former Bedford County Commissioner and involved with the Bedford County Planning Commission. He was a member of the Northern Bedford School Board for 19 years, the Cove Lions Club, Woodbury Sr. Citizens, and played softball until his late 80’s in the Bedford County Sr. Games. Joseph was a huge fan of Northern Bedford Sports, especially wrestling. He enjoyed Pittsburgh and Penn State Sports, as well as hunting, gardening, and joke telling. He was preceded in death by one brother and seven sisters. Surviving are his wife Dolores; son Steven Clapper of Hopewell; son Eric Clapper (Maggie) of Hopewell; son Joseph Clapper III (Christy) of Boalsburg; daughter Jill Clapper of Hopewell; grandchildren Laura Clapper-Zabanal, Seth Clapper, and Bronson Clapper; great-grandchildren Benjamin and Elijah Clapper; and sister Lucy Carberry.
